I bought this sync cable http://flashzebra.com/products/0126/index.shtml (external link) to enable a 550EX to work with my PW IIs but I really am not crazy about it. it doesn't tighten as much as I would like, my flash seems shaky to me on my light stand. is there another cable that will work that is a little more substantial?

I think the problem is inherent to the fact that you're screwing something onto a 1/4" stud sticking out of a 1/2" rod on top of your light stand. A more substantial cable may not solve the problem.

Try using a 5/16" flat washer under the adapter where it screws to the light stand.

I use these on all my flashes and stands and they are solid. Are you mounting these into another cold shoe or directly to a threaded stud. I shoot with another photographer and he left the cold shoe that came with the umbrella adapter in place and then clamped this adapter to that. It was very wobbly with that setup. I take the cold shoe off and screw this adapter directly to the brass stud that mounts in the umbrella adapter. I use the blue Loctite on the threads so it stays tight.
