First post of the forum here. I currently have a G-10, several older print cameras I no longer use and a Rebel 300D I bought about 8 years ago. Most of my lenses were bought in the 1990s when I shot my Elan and EOS 630. The question I have is do you think I would see any marked improvement if I upgraded my body and lenses? The 300D works as good as it did the day I bought it. I rarely enlarge anything larger than 8X10. Subject matter is generally landscape, travel photography and family outings. My lenses are an old 50mm 1.8, a 35-80, a 70-210 USM and a newer 18-55. My wife has said she wants us to buy a new system before we retire in about 3 years so maybe I should just keep what I have for now and upgrade then. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Mark

any of the newer rebels would be an improvement, and then maybe adding a good all around lens that covers wide angle (like the Canon 10-22) since all you intend to do is landscape, travel and family outings. a wide lens like that will get as much subject in without backing off too far that everyone looks small. maybe even think of adding a flash unit too would help.

Canon 7D / 50D / 30D / SL1 / XT

My photography-related addiction makes a crack habit look like a fiscally responsible pasttime.

If the 300D is working for you, I see no reason to upgrade. For what you're using it for, I don't think you'd see a significant improvement, wait until you retire - who knows what sort of magical offerings will be on the shelves in 3 years, they should be better than what we can get today.

That's kind of what I was thinking Rick. If something breaks I'll obviously upgrade then. I wasn't sure if there were substantial differences in the lenses today versus those from 12+ years ago. I still use the 300D with the various lenses if it's something I really want to catch instead of the G-10. The G-10 is great when space is limited or if I'm on the go but I default back to the Rebel.

Thanks,

Mark
