I would like to use my 1dm4 in portrait orientation on a monopod using the 135 f/2, which of course doesn't have a collar.

Really Right Stuff offers an L-Plate, but I can't make out if it has just a screw-in hole on the side so I can simply screw in my monopod directly.

Kirk offers a plate that seems to requires a quick release plate for portrait orientation.

Anyone have one of these to verify?

I doubt that you will find an L-Plate with a screw hole in the side because they are designed to allow access to the various connections on that side.

Right, I forgot that RRS is offset to the rear on the 1D side plates. That's why I didn't go with them.

Not sure if the hole is threaded or not. If it is threaded you'd have to be very careful to not overtighten and strip out the threads.

I have the RSS L-plate on my 1Dm4, and it does have a screw hole on the side. The "side" plate does not interfere with the side connections.

You can also get a clamp to make it easier to take your camera off the monopod ;)

That's what I did. I bought a Kirk 2.0" Quick Release Clamp to put on my monopod, but I probably could have been okay with the 1.75". http://www.kirkphoto.com/2_in_Quick_Release_Clamp.html (external link)
