Has anyone here had any success with Alamy - success, that is, that makes it worth the trouble?

A lot of people have had success. I sell there and make some money. To be very successful, I would imagine that it would take a huge library of top quality images. The type of images you trying to sell also plays a huge part. If you want to sell landscape and flower photos and pictures of your cat, I doubt you'll do well ;)

Success can be taken a few ways. I have 15 images on Alamy (obviously not much of a catalog for a stock site). I supplied those images back in Oct 2008. At the time, it was more of a challenge to see if I was good enough to qualify for a stock site (at the time, Alamy was reasonably hard to get accepted into, or so I was told). I had a success rate of about 75% of acceptance.

I realize your question is probably more related to financial success. Of all my images on there (i just had to log in and look), I have had 1775 views on 15 images and a grand total of 6 zooms. So maybe my shots aren't as in demand as I may have thought. I had 1 more attempt at an upload in Jan 2009 and haven't tried since. My images are rights managed and are priced to meet requirement. Maybe another reason why I have no sales. I don't know!! Actually I don't even really care.

So is it worth it? If your going to submit stock, you have to buy into it and create a pretty big catalog. Once you get interest (or better, sales), you may end up with repeat customers which will generate income and draw more viewers. I think it is worth it, if you apply the effort. I obviously don't apply much effort.

Thanks for all your replies. 2DP - I think that your post more or less sums up my own feelings.

I would like to know if those who have a large number of images on Alamy are still getting the same level of sales as previously?

If you have several thousand saleable images ready to go and have around 250 hours of time to put into keywording them and don't mind waiting around a year for the sales to start coming in, then yes, it's worth it. 3,000 images will probably net you around $5,000 to $6,000 a year. You live in the UK, which helps, as Alamy has a very large UK customer base.
