This just popped up in my e-mail... I'd like to see more about the performance envelope.

Glad to see your lovely bride, Chet. Looks like a lot of fun.

My lovely bride has lost about 30 lbs in the last 6 months. She's been hitting the gym hard 6 times a week. She truly looks stunning.

Interesting concept. Odd mix of footage. I guess it's faster than a train...

Yes, but will it hover and be able to do long line rescues? I don't know that I'd want to be pulled up near those two props.

Seems like a bit of a throwback to the autogyro.

I never thought the Osprey made a lot of sense either. Too many moving parts and too much reliance on computers to keep it in the air.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but when it comes to flying, I'm a firm believer that fewer moving parts is better.

I guess a giant slingshot should do the trick.

For starters? As I recall one crash down your way killed 19 marines. The same year they lost 4 more, including the most experienced Osprey pilot, on the east coast.

If you look at about 2:20 in the video, you'll see it hovering briefly at the start of the flight segment.

I think you've already seen its optimal environment, and that's CGI. What I can't quite figure out is whether it's the world's first 4-engine single-rotor helicopter or it's got a gear train that would turn Rube Goldberg positively green with envy (in which case, God help anyone who takes it into unfriendly environs).

True . . . I suspect it won't do well out of ground effect anywhere much above sea level at low temperatures. Hot and high, it'll need to do rolling takeoffs from base by the look of the rotor plan.
