Ace! Which Toyota vehicles do you have?

I have a 2008 4Runner that I was leasing but like it so much, I converted the lease to a purchase and we traded in a 2005 Saturn L300 to lease my wife a 2012 Camry XLE.

Never been in a Buick dealership...or a Buick car for that matter

We had a deal in principal for a 2012 Buick LaCrosse (honestly, a really, really nice car) but the deal fell apart when another dealership sold the car out from under us instead of agreeing to the dealer trade that was supposed to move it to our dealer's lot.

I had to go to a Buick dealership this past December. They had a fantastic deal on my G6 and there are no more Pontiac dealerships. The sales-dudes were not all to happy with GMs decision to cancel the Pontiac line.

Based on my experience this weekend, they're going to be even less happy when GM finally dies.

Seriously, it's 2012 and despite years of decline and billions in stimulus money, they still act and treat their customers like it's 1978.

F*** 'Em...

And just so you know how honest my vitriol really is, my Dad worked for GM for 34 years and before he died, GM products are all I ever drove.

Howdy Moo...

I'm with Omar. That's wall worthy Dan. Oh, and your frozen sunset is fabulous. Meant to comment earlier but this past weekend went from Heaven to Hell and back again so I was a little preoccupied.

Gotta wonder about car dealers in general. I test drove a new Focus and would really like to find a specific version....Ford dealer assured me they could have one in a week. That was before Christmas and I still haven't heard back from them. GM has made some strange decisions lately....like discontinuing the HHR....sales were supposedly strong. Seems odd to kill off something that is semi-successful when you are struggling.

My dad only has ever owned Japanese cars...My mum did venture in getting a Jaguar once. Holy **** did that thing drink fuel like a Texan needs water. So they quickly changed that to a Lexus.

I've actually never owned my own vehicle before. Never needed one - public transport is what I've always done. When we moved over here from the UK, my wife being from the US had credit, I was like a newborn in the country. So she went out and bought herself the Rav4 back in 2010. Great little thing.

Over the festive time, I got to drive the in-law's Highlander. We know what we will be upgrading to when the time comes. There is plenty of space in there for all of Alexander's stuff. It is all too cramped in the Rav4 - esp with his car seat - so the front passenger seat is very far forwards to accomodate it. Then we have his stroller(s) in the boot (read trunk). That takes up all that room...

But even in -23°F, both Toyotas started up, 1st time, every time. Practicality is the main thing for us.

I actually had a really good experience at the dealership. Went in, took a look at their inventory. Found a car I really liked but it was not exactly what i wanted. (too many miles) The sales guy got on some GM website, found another used car just miles away which had way fewer miles on it and had someone drive it over. In 2 hours it was at the dealership I was at. Talked price and as we were returning customers, they beat everyone we had previously talked to by a significant margin. The next closest price was a good $500 more. Its a Gm certified car and comes with a 1 year warranty. On top of that they added in 2 years of free oil changes and tire rotations and 4 auto detail coupons for a free detail. Used one already for my old car. had them detail it for sale. They did a really good job. All in all It was a pleasant buying experience.

Here's the real kicker...

The Toyota dealer offered us twice the trade in value for our Saturn than the Buick dealer and I had to make the Buick salesman go back to the "war room" three times just to get to a trade in price that I still had to choke down.

The icing on the cake at Buick though was when we went back to collect our deposit, the business manager had the un-mitigated gaul to try and strong-arm us into a different car.

Now bear in mind that the day we were supposed to pick up the Buick and they called us to tell us we couldn't get the car, was my wife's freakin' birthday! She's already all teary eyed and disappointed (and I'm already doing a very slow burn) and this idiot is holding up my money to try and re-sell us on something else.

GAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Double F*** 'EM!

I can see how that would not be a pleasant experience. Car dealers and camel traders have a lot in common.....and none of it good.

I never trade though. I have always gotten way more selling the car than trading it. It's pretty easy to sell them here. I've had people walk up and say they noticed that the car has not moved in a couple weeks, would I sell it.

Thanks Harm...

All's well that ends well. The Camry isn't quite as "plush" as the Buick but she still got leather seats and the toys she really wanted (XM Radio and in-dash navigation were the biggies .. she has a rotten commute) for about $6000 less (car cost) and around $30 less per month (with a much better back-end residual.)
