I've opened up tranny's, but that's as far as I'll go as you usually need special tools to do the rest. I also buy the official shop manual for a keeper vehicle. Can usually get them on EBay for $10, and beats the Haynes manual any day.

If I had access to the special tools I would have no problem pulling a tranny apart. I enjoyed working on them at school and when I was working at GM I worked next to the transmission guy. I would be his extra set of hands most of the time, and he was good at talking about what he was working on.

If I had a book and the tools, I may try it. I've done riding mower tranny's hydro-static and manual gear boxes.

They actually aren't that hard to take apart and put back together. The difficult part is understanding and diagnosing, before you tear it apart. Especially an automatic.

And the new ones are very computer controlled. I would probably run far away. The older ones I take it could be diagnosed by taking pressure readings. Watch out for the little ball bearings in the control valve body.

Pressure readings are still very important. The new electronics are very unforgiving when it comes to tolerances.

Been there, done that with the valve body. Petroleum jelly is wonderful for holding them in place.

Mmmm, roast Brisbanite again here today up over 100F but today was different to Monday. Today was a very dry heat where as Monday was very humid. Both not nice though.

Walking outside work out of the air con at 4pm today was like walking into an oven. Humidity is only 13% at the moment.

it must be so hot that it's bleeding through up here is Chicago. We had 55f. yesterday. This is the time we usually get slapped with -18f. I'm not complaining though.

It's chilly now but suppose to warm up. This has to go down on the record books as the warmest January ever. The weather dudes have been pretty goo about keeping it low key and not jinxing it. We are only 11 days into the new year but no snow and no really cold days.

Pouring rain here.....we are drowning. My yard is like the great dismal swamp. Just need a gator or two and some venomous snakes to complete the package. Toss in being sick as a dog and you have a wonderful day. Happy Wednesday. :(
