Are you willing to relocate?

Yes, those jobs were in Oklahoma City.

We have not had a single new employee join us since 2004. We have been laying off since 2002

That's not good.

Sorry they pulled the rug on you Nick. There's so much government money and foreign money involved with funding Boeing that the least little thing can make them change course. I'm sure it seems really fickle from the outside.

Sorry to hear that Nick.

As for HR departments and whether they make any sense...don't get me started.:evil::evil:

Easy Cowboy, I'm married to an HR professional...

It may not make sense and it may seem "draconian" at times but I live with the angst, tears and stomach acid that come with being on the other side of the desk.

Trust me when I tell you that the percentage of HR people who like swinging the axe is infinitesimal. Most would rather have a root canal or have their appendix out without anesthetic.

No replacements?

We've had unpaid furloughs and pay cuts for 3 years now. Next year will be the same (4% up to 6%) plus the equivalent of about 80 instructors laid off due to over 300 classes being cut. At a time when folks need to retrain and learn new skills, we've been forced to cut about 3,000 students in the past 18 months. We live in some crazy times.

Oh Jay... question for you.

Have you done your state tax return yet? Have you heard much about the new "Use Tax" line?

Haven't seen my guy yet. I go on 3/14...

I'm aware of Use Tax. It's been around a long time. We'll see how it plays out.

Ah..

Yeah... but this is the first year there is a line for it on the return forms. Some people are saying Amazon orders are exempt (Arizona just billed Amazon for like $53 million for unpaid taxes), and now I guess there are a few bills that are back in the legislature to remove the line...

Not sure what to put on that line...

They're banging on Amazon because they have a presence in AZ (a fulfillment center IIRC)

All my stuff comes from B&H or Canoga. ;)

No replacements. We went from a company of 168,000 in 2001 to 30k. Then 1/2 of us was sold.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Well about half of my online purchases were from Amazon... so I don't know if I should include that or not..

The state did not do a good job at explaining how to reconcile all of the unpaid use tax.

This is why I don't do my own taxes...

My federal was super easy. 1040EZ and done. My state taxes were easy as well... except for this stinkin line.

I'm sure that's true with regards to layoffs.

On the other hand, I'm not a cowboy, and I'm not clear how you could interpret what I said as an indication that I thought HR enjoyed terminating employees.

My issues with HR departments relates to how frequently they create causes of action for employment related lawsuits by their inaction or failure to follow their own rules. I sit on the claims & liabilities committee for a statewide self insurance JPA for colleges. Last year we paid out millions on two claims because the HR "professionals" screwed up on some very basic personnel processes.

My Apologies...

I guess I misinterpreted this:
