25% the gear.

75% the person behind the viewfinder.

Nice shots!

The 50 1.8 has taken some of my favorites too. There's a reason it has a good reputation around here.

A good lens, in good hands, is an excellent tool!

Cute shots :) I was thinking about getting a nifty fifty, since I've seen some really nice photos from it. But after reading on POTN I'm concerned it's not going to AF fast enough for shooting babies and children. Did you experience that problem with these photos? I've worked with some pretty wild kids and I hate it when a great expression is missed.

first shot is great. second shot the left side of her face is a little too hot. at f2 (second shot) you start seeing a bit of the nervous bokeh the lens produces in the background blur. this is worse around 2.8. past f 5.6 its not as much of an issue. In terms of sharpness, the lens is truly amazing by any standards. In fact, it is sharper at f 5.6-f8 on a full frame, corner to corner than just about every L zoom, and most L primes, including the 85 1.2, 5 1.2 (by a good margin) and so on.

The AF is indeed slow. So trying to catch running kids is gonna be hard at times, but if you can catch them off guard then the lens will do you justice!!!
