One thing thats great about the new sigma 150 macro is that its compatable with there 1.4 and 2x teleconverters and can provide greater than lifesize shots.. So your working distance would stay the same with a tele attached but your magnification would be greater.

Which can only be good..

Why doesnt the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro do the same..:confused:

If you want a longer working distance, do you consider Tamron 180mm macro? It receives high recommendations, and is smaller and lighter than Sigma or Canon 180mm. The price is reasonable.

what do you mean working distance remains constant but maginification increases?

So the increase of mm w/ the TC allows for closer maginification? Where does the working distance fall in this equation?

The images at pbase seem to show that the sigma 180 is better than the 150. Sigma's MTF charts look better as well. Anyone have any experience? The 180 is looking mighty tempting to me.

I did a lot of research in the past to select my macro lens, after saw many photos, reviews, reports ... I got one conclusion:

Sigma 150 mm f/2.8 EX APO MAcro DG without any doubt. 430€ in Tenerife (Canary Island,)

In FM it´s actually rated 9.8.

Cheers

Sigma 150 f/2.8 all the way! Best macro around in my opinion. I owned one other, the Canon 100 f/2.8 macro, and the sigma 150 blows it away. Razor sharp, good looking, comes with a tripod color, case, hood, has a fantastic manual focus ring, ect. Basically, it can't be beat. I too considered the 180mm macro's, but the thing is, they're not f/2.8. I wouldn't even take the Canon 180 f/3.5L over the sigma 150.

Here are links to some pics I've taken with my Sigma 150;

Hope that helps!

The 150mm is the way to go. (sold my Canon 100 for it). And it does work great with teleconverters. Check out two of my shots with a Sigma 1.4x at an airshow.

T-cons increase focal length,. they do not change minimum focus distance.. thereby any lens to which a T-con is fitted has it's total magnification increased.
