That was an extrapolation on your part, based on information not available in my post.

If you hear about an accident somewhere, and know that people you know or relate too might have been there and involved, you feel a natural need to figure out if they are ok.

A tragedy is a tragedy, whoever died or got hurt for life. But that does not stop us from caring extra for people who know. Or are you different?

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post. It just read to me that as long as no photographers were injured, it was all right.

Wow, like was said earlier, nine people dead -- and I see that seven were actuall killed at the site -- it's interesting that it has taken a day just to get that info out as opposed to the three figure that has been "public" for so long.

But wow, how sad...

Confirmed deaths now up to five...

Apparently two in hospital died overnight.

Very sad to hear of the tragedy, but glad to see you posting Jay...my first thought was to hope you weren't there.
Not that those thoughts take away from my sympathy for others, but as you say, one considers one's own associates first, no matter how tenuous the connection.

Growing old disgracefully!

Terrible accident.

No such thing as an accident, there are always circumstances that are antecedent to any type of crash which could have been changed to prevent the event from occurring.

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post. It just read to me that as long as no photographers were injured, it was all right.

I don't know many people who would think that it is ok that people dies in a airplane accident. But it is most probably not a common view.

So it can't be too easy to believe that people do write something like that, unless they write it very explicitly.

trim tab on the left elevator failed and snapped the plane upward. A p51 at those speed with out functioning trim tabs/elevators would be all but imposable to control. Jimmy was the one of the very best Vintage war bird pilots around and if he could not hang on to it, I doubt anyone could.

Was standing at the fence line in the unlimited pits, just had turned my camera on Galloping Ghost as Jimmy rounded the last pylon headed for home. First frame he is already pulling out of the race, and have another 5 frames, ~1 sec.

Having seen those events, I can confidently say I would much prefer not to experience an event like that again. Even 5 days later, I skip over viewing my photos of Jimmy's pull up and roll over. Still can see the events unfold in my mind as I lay in bed falling asleep... Viewing the pics of the crash site at 100% is best not done after lunch.

I'm usually about the most stoic person you'd meet, this was just that bad.

You know you bring up a good point. First let me say it was a sad event and i'm always sorry for the lives lost that day. I think it's starting to come more and more into light that photographers are starting to suffer from PTSD like symptoms after seeing more and more events like these. The shock doesn't seem to set in the same I think because when you're behind the camera it's like the event doesn't seem to effect you as much as the normal bystander that's just watching in horror. I'm guessing a lot of photographers really don't have it set in until they start to see their images of everything that happened. Hope you don't let this eat you up too much.....

-Chris
