Hello people, I need a bit of a run down on using an external flash.
Here's my setup, 7d, 100-400 and Canon 430 exii.

What I want to know is how do I set up so I can use the flash with shutter speeds faster than 1/250?

Can someone link me to a good speedlite tutorial?

Cheers
Jason

Enable HSS on the flash, it's one of the buttons. Be aware that you lose a lot of flash power doing this.

I've enabled HSS (H with lightning bolt symbol) on the Speedlite but still cant set Shutter Speed in TV mode.
Any more ideas?

Check the Custom Functions (C.Fn I -7) on your camera.

Take it out of manual mode. I'm not sure why you'd want manual flash and Tv mode anyways, it doesn't make sense.

I'm totaly new to using a speedlite so none of it makes sense to me, What I want to be able to do is add flash fill while using a fast shutter speed to capture movement if that makes sense

My point is rather that in Tv mode, the flash power will vary based on the camera's meter reading. So manual mode doesn't make much sense, as the power and the ratio to the ambient/flash will change. Keep it in ETTL (or shoot in something other than Tv mode).

Either way, HSS will function in manual and ETTL mode.

Cheers, I switched Camera to Manual mode and Speedlite to ETTL, set the shutter speed and she's all go.
