I know some brands work better than others in different bodies, so I am wondering what works best in a 5Dc? Or does it really matter for the 5D since it is pretty old.

Thanks!!

I always buy sandisk, I wait for them to be on sale. With a 5D, I think your options are limited based bus speed of the cameras CF slot...so maybe some of the high speed cards are a bit of overkill on the write side in camera BUT they are still nice to have.

Sandisk is, well, pretty much the leading brand for good reasons -- reliable high quality products. I've had other brands with no problems, but not "cheap" brands.

On my 5DC I use an 8GB Sandisk Extreme III as my "main" card, and another as a backup -- it holds a bit less than 500 Raw shots. As was said, the 5D is slow so you could call the card "overkill" but I want to have reasonably fast speeds downloading with a decent card reader.

I've used Sandisk, Transcend and Lexar.

All good IMO.

I'm like Tony - three of my four 5Dc cards are Sandisk Extreme III. But mine are 4Gb, which gives around 215 shots on RAW. My fourth (emergency) card is a 4Gb Sandisk Ultra which, at 30Mb/sec, is still plenty fast for the 5D write speed.

I have two cheap SD E II from Walmart. Works fine and I'm able to take sports shots with it as well.

My experience with cheap memory cards is that they work great...until they don't.

I stick with Sandisk and Lexar and I only buy from a reputable retailer so that I know the cards are not counterfeit. I'm sure there are other quality brands as well, but I don't have personal experience with any other brands.

If I'm correct, "KF" was referring to having two Sandisk Extreme II cards which he picked up for a discount at Walmart. And, since the "E II" is an "older" model, I'm not surprised that "WM" would sell it for relatively "cheap":)!

If they don't I'll replace them. But they do work and I haven't used really cheap ones from e-bay.

OK, I get it: SD=Sandisk. I guess I need to brushup on my memory card acronyms :)

I have a 4GB Kingston card that I've used as a backup -- I've had it for the past 5 years at least, using it with my 30D, and have had no problems with it. In fact, I almost always have bought SanDisk. Over the 9 years of doing digital photography I've only had one card fail, a little SD card that I was using in one of my old compact digicams, I imagine 8 or so years ago. And that represents a bunch of bodies and a lot of cards, both SD and now only CF.
