The oldest hospital in London, Ontario is closing and moving over to a new location. The hospital was open to the public this weekend for self-guided tours. They had displays set up in different areas and this iron lung was one of them.

Yes, it is HDR. I was trying more than 3 images and this was made up of 9 images.

Thanks - a lot of hard work there. The evenness of tone is what got me to thinking in that direction. Out of curiousity, was there an original image that may perhaps exhibit more dramatic lighting?

Thank you everyone.

Out of curiousity, was there an original image that may perhaps exhibit more dramatic lighting?

Sure thing. I am attaching two images showing the darkest and lightest exposures of the iron lung. I took out the rope and stand in the final image.

Curious.. whats the exif on this? And is there any flash used at all?

Not sure about the exif on the final image. But I did shoot at 100 ISO, F/6.3 in Aperture Priority. The AEB was set at 2/3rds. The Exposure was started at 0, then -2 and +2. This gave me 9 exposures from -2-2/3 up to 2-2/3. No flash was used at all.

Thank god for Dr. Salk.

You have that right, although I couldn't imagine spending my life inside an iron lung. Better than the alternative for sure!

Al

Dr. Salk discovered and developed the first polio vaccine.

I have known a least two people that were afflicted with the disease, both are in their late 70's. Neither could I imagine living in one of the iron lungs.

I remember seeing telethons on tv to raise money for polio victims when I was young. Thanks to Dr. Salk, that is no longer necessary.

I like this shot but would like to see it a little darker so it would appear more sinister.

Great shot and processing. Maybe puch up the contrast a bit.
