Here are some shots from our Red/White scrimmage yesterday!

C&C always welcome. First time using my 60D at the arena and boy was it nice being able to shoot at 1250 ISO and not worry about noise!

Nice Drew. What were your general exposures? Going to do some hockey pics soon with my new DSLR.
What shutter speed did u find froze the action enough?

Hey, I have done this many times now enough to know that for most shots, like these, I was shooting around 1/400 and most motion blur was stopped. But again that is me shooting at f/5.6 (lens was a 18-135 f/3.5-5.6) at about 800 ISO. A few of the photo's in that set were shot at 1/640 to stop even more motion and get some pretty crisp images but with those I had to step up to 1250 ISO. Still, exposed properly my camera handled noise pretty well.

Number one rule for me to get their faces in the shots, I have a few connections and opportunities to get most of my pictures I shoot autographed and so I like to plan for those while I shoot.

These were all shot from the front row, still working on getting in touch with the team photographer to trail him as I have a connection high up in the organization. But this was the preseason red/white scrimmage game open to the public so I got there early and picked out a nice glass seat.

So far I have had 13 of my pictures autographed and given 2 away to a charity auction I was asked to participate in.

However, I have also given away numerous print extra's to those at an autograph session to people who didn't have anything to get signed. Gotta get your name out there some how!

Who the heck are those losers? (see note)

Nice shots though. You and the camera did very well, the Ryan Murphy one is the best, and put me down for liking Hockey....

IMO you need to have the puck in more of the shots. Some of your shots aren't that exciting of one guy in the frame no puck or anything else going on. For all I know that guy could be skating around in warm ups.

Thanks for the kind words, and it was good to see the rookie who is now the second player on the team younger than me, (I'm 19) and he is making $856,000 next year and I'm unemployed haha

I agree completely with the ones that needed the puck, but as stated this was a Red/White scrimmage so both jersey's were our own and any action shot I took would be unusable for what I am needing pictures for right now. I do wish I could have gotten more action and more with the puck though. I put a link in the OP with the flikr group so you can see some of the other action ones (only a couple).

Thank you for your input though! All is appreciated to make me better!
