I wasn't sure where else to post this question.
I have been shooting all my shots at L(2272x1704). Does saving the shots at the largest setting make for the best photo quality?

Thanks, Dan

And you should consider shooting in Superfine mode, as that also increases quality.

Would you advize me to shot at:
M1(1600x1200) at Superfine
or
L (2272x1704) at Fine

For getting nice prints of up to about 8 x10

??

Thanks, Dan

I'd actually advice you to shoot at L Superfine to get the most out of your pictures. Remember, you can never enlarge a jpeg.

(I would even advice you to shoot in RAW mode, but I don't use that much myself yet.)

But If I shoot at L Superfine. I can only hold about 30 shots on my 64 mb cf card.
Isn't 1600x1200 big enough for 8 x 10 prints?

Yes that's big enough to print at 150 ppi. However, you should try to keep it at Superfine to reduce the compression artifacts that you get. But, in all honesty, the best way to tell is to actually shoot a couple of pictures and have them enlarged to an 8x10 size and see how satisfied you are with them.

One other thing to consider is that if you switch to a lower resolution you have basically limited yourself to a max print size of 8x10. If you ever want to make bigger prints then they won't be a good as if they were shot in the highest resolution mode available.

Remember also you are limiting yourself as to how much you can crop and enlarge. With the max resolution you have maximum latitude on cropping and zooming in on the computer before printing. Yes, keep it at Superfine, and get a bigger card!! (I know, they're expensive, but the prices are dropping.) I have a 256MB and dearly want a 512.

under "storage" at least once a week to see if there are any hot deals. You can even have them e-mail you if any CompactFlash cards appear.

Amazon (and others) now have a $20 rebate on the Lexar 256MB (12x), making it $45, which is an incredible deal!!! I bought 2... (under different names - used a friend, cause rebate is limited to 1 per person). I also like to shoot at the highest possible resolution, who knows...

:-)
