So I can possibly pickup a 40D for under $400. I currently have the Rebel XS. I feel it would be an uprgrade even though they are both 10.1 MP. Great condition. Not sure on shutters. But should I pull the trigger for that price or hold out for a 50D?

Never shot with a rebel so I can't say. But I do know there is almost no difference between a 40 & 50D. If you're going to "hold out" for something it should be a 7D.

I had the XS first then i went to a 40D and it was a world of differnece to me, especially in the body, just better feeling body and layout. for 400$ i would, not worth waiting for a 50D imo

If you can get it for that price, I'd snag it. The 40D is a terrific camera, and yes, I would consider it an upgrade; only because the controls are so much easier to manage with the dual control dials. I also prefer the slightly larger body, as well.

YES... IMO, the 40D is an upgrade. However, I don't think that the image quality will be that much better. However, the control system (two wheels) and three user selected modes as well as other features makes it a better camera for me.

I shot an entire two week China tour with a combination of a 30D and a 40D. I came close to getting a second 40D to eplace my 30D but, got a good price on a 7D instead. I never considered the 50D nor the 60D...

As far as the price goes, the $400 for the 40D seems like a good, but not great price. This, of course, depends on the condition of the camera. Here are the recent eBay completed auctions for 40D cameras...

I missed out on it by $5. :( I went to lunch and came back and it had ended. Highly disappointed. Thanks for the input everyone. Should I try and go for a 40D instead of a 50D?
