No hard dates about a release so far, but I just got my shipping update from Amazon on my pre-order:

"Canon PowerShot S100 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)"
Estimated arrival date: October 05 2011 - October 13 2011

Fom what I've see, Amazon is very accurate when it comes to these things. Some were speculating November release. It's coming :)

Thats great news. Unfortunately I refuse to buy it in the UK where its about 1.5x of the price in the US and elsewhere, so I'm going to have to wait til december, and I can't preorder :(

That's the evil of different currency rates right there :) You could always get a friend/relative from the states to buy one and send it to you, but then you run the risk of that nasty duty-tax. On optical lenses, it may not be so bad, but a compact camera is clearly tech, and you'd probably pay 20% extra for that?

Its 439 pounds on amazon UK versus $429 on the US site. So its a more expensive currency AND it costs an extra 10. 439 pounds is $690. I'm not paying that for a p&s.

Ok, so I tried a few options on Amazon, to see the price. I am going on vacation the 14th and this would be the ONLY time I would find the shipping upgrade, worth the bucks.

Super Saver: $0 arrival 10/7-21
Standard: $4.99 arrival 10/3-10/11
2-day: $9.99 arrival 10/5-10/13
1-day: $15.99 arrival 10/4-12

Very odd that the "Standard" shipping gets it to you, the quickest. I will be trading in my s95, tonight, for this new one.

"Super Saver" is basically the US Mail for the last 50 miles or so. The extra handover takes extra time. The 2 Business Day and 1 Business Day services tend to take the full 2 or 1 business days respectively. But they'd have to ship on Sept. 30 for you to have a chance of getting it on the Oct. 3 date "Standard" is reporting. Since Canon's official release date is Nov. 20 (resellers aren't supposed to ship before then, although some will ship as soon as they receive them) I don't know that I'd gamble on those Amazon-cited dates being reliable.

Without giving up any sources, where do we see an official date from Canon of Nov 20th?

Canon's official press release says "November". B&H says "November" and Adorama says "November 20". Both B&H and Adorama observe Canon's official release dates.

I'm in a bind here: I JUST got my s95 a couple weeks ago from Amazon. I can still return it, for a full refund. Unfortunately, I leave on vacation on Oct 14th. I JUST shipped my last camera to an eBay buyer, so if I send my camera back to Amazon and don't get the s100 in time, I'd be without a camera on vacation!

I am a HUGE fan of Amazon and generally trust their release and shipping dates.

Jon: I appreciate your input and hopefully Amazon can ship this sooner.

Well, some vendors will ship ahead of Canon's official release date, to minimize "crunch mode" when some bit of new gear gets massive pre-orders. The official release dates are set so that dealers will (hopefully) have enough kit on hand to meet the anticipated pre-orders (not that it always works that way).

Do not bank on it getting there within the amazon timeframe. I'm just saying it's possible it'll ship then--amazon has been pretty accurate with my preorders in the past.

I decided to pull the trigger on this one. I can still get a full refund on my s95. I did overnight shipping ($3.99 with my new prime membership) as well. I can honestly say, if Amazon's giving me that date, I trust it. They've been really good in the past. I guess we'll find out in just a few weeks. (Looking at the calendar, I could have this in my hands in two weeks!) I will be sure to follow up here, and let everyone know.

Usually--then again, I've been on backorder for something for about a month, then got an update saying it would ship in 9 days, then a few days later it's no longer available from amazon, period, and my estimate has been reivised to "we'll let you know if we carry it in stock again at some point".

Still, when it comes to the advertised ship dates for a pre-order, I trust Amazon over Adorama, B&H, etc.

Amazon confirmed an Oct 9th release, in limited quantities. I however, totally screwed myself, by changing my payment method. When I did this, I lost my place in queue, now the date is sometime in December. Now I don't have a camera for my vacation.
