The boys are having a great season and picked up another win in their 3-0 defeat of Lake Catholic. This brings the record to 5-0-1.

As has been the case with all of my soccer stuff this season, all were taken with the 1DM3 and 70-200 MkII w 1.4tc combo. Exif is included, feel free to let the crit fly!

1. kept it alive right on the touch..

2. huge strike for goal #1 (from about 30yds)

3. and goal #2 from a bit closer

4. middie's played tough on both sides
IMAGE: http://www.sephotos.net/img/v24/p995684680-5.jpg

5. and goal #3 (keeper was tough as nails)
IMAGE: http://www.sephotos.net/img/v15/p219327198-5.jpg

6. fooled the defenders but the keeper was all over this chipper...
IMAGE: http://www.sephotos.net/img/v4/p478530514-5.jpg

7. in on goal (I hate this angle but you can see where the light transitions making exposure tough, 1D3 setup to use back button to switch from M to Av with preset settings).

8. semi artsy crap..

Images #4 and #5 look more like rugby than soccer. :) Over all, nicely done with good WB and SS.

Thanks and agreed. The midfield match was that way all day. FWIW, on #5, the colors were a little warm for me so I added a layer, used the click adjust for WB to that layer which brought in more blues and green) then used the slider to blend them until it looked right. Glad someone appreciated it!!

Thanks Brian. The short answer is yes. I typically shoot soccer from three positions 1) just outside of the box on the goal line 2) halfway up the box along either touchline depending on sun and 3) somewhere between the top of the box and center field (works for offense and defense). I always shoot from a seated or kneeling position and with this gear combo, always handheld with IS turned off (unless shutter speeds drop dramatically due to light but only if we dip below 1/500s)

thanks i shoot a lot from those first 2 positions that you shoot from but i dont spend much time in the middle field area in your position 3. im going to shoot from there next time and see how it feels. i feel comfortable in those first 2 spots but generally dont even move too too far from the corners, i do change corners throughout the game during timeouts or when the game stops briefly.

Scott,
love #5. The last one could be a great background for a memory mate.;) At least that is how I see it.

Great set. Love the colors. #7 is tough shot. With that changing of light, good thing you have the custom function setting.

Thanks Theron, I was thinking of doing something like that with the last one. Also thinking I may print it at 16x20 then use a wide matting and have the kids all sign it in as a coaches gift.

Brian, I used to hate shooting from a more midfield position but when you stop and realize that most of the game gets played there, we are missing way too much not to shoot it. You get fantastic opportunities as the middies switch fields, often they run right at you and the challenges are always there. Give it a go for sure!!

Thanks. That CFn is great. Just move the thumb another 1/4 to the right and you are in Av still using back button focus!!!
