I have been shooting with a Sigma 400 5.6 prime on my 1Dc lately. It's been a while since I have shot anything. Coaching two teams will do that. But this past weekend I took my camera with me to shoot a little after my boys teams played.

Anyway, here are few with a lens that I believe is older than my 1Dc. All shot manual at 5.6. I want to try shooting with this at a smaller fstop. I am hoping that will improve the clarity and sharpness of the images if I stop it down a bit.

ISO was around 400, SS was around 640. It was grey overcast day and like I said, I wanted to see how this lens performed. More shooting with it this weekend. All exif is on my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42563438@N03/ (external link)

BTW, if anyone is in the South Jersey and interested in shooting my boys playing, please let know. I don't get to shoot them because I coach two of them and one plays for an academy team, maybe we can work something out.

Let me know what you think of these. Feedback is appreciated.

1,2 & 3 are 1st rate -- in focus, action, great color and expressions but background looks strange and by that I mean it looks like the player's are on a hill or ridge the the background is much lower. It doesn't look like it's because you are shooting from a higher angle so it's hard to tell anything -- except a lower angle would have hidden it from view -- I think.

This field has a crown on the sidelines and goal lines. I was standing a little below the top of the crown where it drops down, and I was on my knees.

That is probably why it looks that way. I was asked by the ref to back off the goal line a little bit. First time that has ever happened to me. So i moved back a little more to stay out of the way. No big deal really.

I'll get one and post it. It's not a big lens at all. Easy to handhold, but I use it on tripod all the time. This weekend if I get a chance to shoot some with it, I want to stop it down and see if that helps improve the sharpness.

I know it's not a great lens. But I think it can produce some decent images.
