I came across this online today, has anybody on here ever used this before? or something similiar? If not, how do you think the light quality would be out of a thing like this? The portability of this is what is making my interest curious

That looks like someone took their dog's Elizabethan collar and stuck it on their flash......which may not be a bad idea for a DIY considering this thing is pushing $100.00 USD.

I've been pondering modifying one of my wife's collapsible silicone bowls.

I doubt the quality of light on that thing would be all that great, but that's not really its strong point in my opinion.
Looks like a fair compromise on portability/light quality......but until I have one in my hands, it's all speculation.

Good idea! My Basset Hound would vote YES!

I think the major advantage of this invention is the reduction in weight. A big beauty dish is very heavy.

The only big heavy dish I know is bigger mola. Kacey dish that I have is super light. The old AB white dish wasn't heavy either. New Ab HOBD is again pretty light. But then to some even regular dSLR is heavy. All relative I guess.

Yes, I should have noted that I'm not physically strong. :p

At locations to shoot, it is great to have a little weight on the beauty dish to be steady in the wind. I love both of my Setti and Demi. I did modified my Demi so that it can take (and rest on) the unified swivel just like the Setti; therefore, my Demi is also a little heavier (and i love it that way for the reason above).
As far as the plastic speedlight prokit, i would not pay $100 for it (if i can also make something similar myself).

I guess no one on here has used something like this before. At $100 I'm not going to be the Guinea Pig, not very expensive, but too expensive when I don't know what I would be getting exactly in terms of quality of light. Plenty of other things I need to buy first

Don Giannatti uses that portable BD and talks nice of it. Here is the link:

I trust him lot more than other reviwers of the gear.

Thanks for pointing this out! But I was speaking from my experience of carrying lighting stuff. Among them, the dish is the heaviest. And carrying things in different ways could make the experience different as well. A good backpack may make one feels a heavy weight less heavy, for example.

i have bought and used other modifiers from the same company before (their large soft box and little soft box for speed lights), i have to say the products looked pretty cool themselves, but the light that came from them were not too good.

Let us know what you find out from this beauty dish.

Thanks for the link, I never came across that site before. He did have nice things to say about it. He said he does prefer & love his Kaceys dish, but when traveling & can not bring it, he is happy to use the collapsable dish, and gets nice results out of it........perhaps this will go on the holiday wish list I give to wife
