I know how to do it in photoshop, but that just takes forever and i figured there has to be an easier way. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't see how it can be much faster. Add the width of the second photo (plus the border x 3) to the first photo, bring in the second photo as a layer, snap in place, and export.

I was just wondering if there was a program with templates or something like that.

You can do diptych and triptych layouts (and whatever else you want to layout) in LR in the print module. Print to a JPEG.

That said, as Eric points out, it doesn't take much effort in PS either.

Yes, there is an easier and faster way after the first time.

Create a new document in the size desired. Go to File/Place and choose an image, set it up to how you want. Do the same for the 2nd image. They should both be smart objects. Save as a psd. When you want to change, open the psd, right click on one of the smart objects, choose replace contents, and pick the image. Do the same for the other side. The images need to be the same size to work better.

Thanks Kirk. I agree, it doesnt take much time in PS, but it slows down my computer a lot to have PS and Aperture open at the same time, (sometime LR included) so i try to avoid opening it at all costs.

Well, I imagine there are good sources for diptych, triptych and and other assorted polyptych images, but I've never done it as such. I'd Google either "polyptych template", "diptych template" something like that and see what pops up!

And, if you want more overall info, Wikipedia has a page for Polyptych ( as well as ones for the common "layouts":

Thanks for all the help. i made a template in LR and that's seeming to be a lot easier.

This is the method that I use and it takes mere seconds to replace the contents on an image that might have 2 pictures in it.

There are lots of templates available for free or cash on the net. They have the masks all built for you and it is a matter of simply dragging and dropping your images into them.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Ya, If anyone could find me a PS template or layout for polyptycs, (or an Aperture plugin if it exists) I'd really appreciate it. I'm a big Aperture user so that'd be really convenient. But, I'm good with doing it in LR, I'm just not used to how the Library or Catalog or whatever it is works. But thanks for all the help guys.

I'm not familiar with the "other" ways in Photoshop, but I can't imagine it gets too much easier than this. Really pretty simple.

In ACR you can select the images and then choose Tools/Photoshop/Load Files into Photoshop Layers. Then you can move them around as the video shows.

Convert the image layers to smart objects, save as a psd, and the next time you want to use that same layout all you have to do is open the psd, right-click on one of the smart objects, replace contents, and choose the image you want in there. No use in doing all the moving, etc. again. It works really well if the images are in the same aspect and size. If not, a quick transform works.

Another easy way to do custom print packages. Create a new document for the size desired. File/Place and setup how you want. Duplicate layer. Move the duplicate layer into position and size desired. Duplicate as many times as you want, moving and resizing into position desired. Save as a psd. When you're ready for another package, open the psd, right click on any of the smart objects, replace contents, choose new file and double click, and it will update each layer with the new image.
