I'm going to do food photography for my next theme in my art class. I'm debating on what lens to use, I have the 50mm and 85mm, both 1.8.. I like the way the 85mm feels personally and leaning towards that, however most of my research for my journal has people using the 50mm 1.4... I am using a crop body..I'm just looking for opinions/thoughts and advantages/disadvantages on using the 85mm.. I'm going to be in a studio with a couple strobes..

18-55 @ f/8, ISO 100, Tripod should do.
Or 50 f/1.8, ISO 100, Tripod.

The 85 has a minimum focus distance of 2.5 feet. The 50/1.4 is better at 1.5 feet, but I much prefer the 50/2.5 macro.

You'll be fine with the 50mm (it's what I use most of the time for food photography). But as someone mentioned above, definitely use a tripod.
