I'd like to use some type of form for a client to sign who agrees to purchase a fine art piece. I'd like the document to have my information, the image they're agreeing to along with the size & print media & price & a place for them to sign, acknowledging agreement to their purchase.

Can anyone refer me to a similar document without reinventing the wheel?

You might want to have a look at the Photographer's Forms (external link) that you can get from Amazon.

What you are describing is essentially a bill of sale with the exception of the fact that you want them to sign it. Are you imposing a set of terms and conditions on a fine art print that requires you to have them sign it. I've seen plenty of receipt kind of forms online. I made my own in Acrobat so that there are fields to fill in but you don't want to reinvent the wheel. Specifically what you are looking for I have not seen but I am sure there is probably something that you could find on the net that you could customize.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Thanks for your reply. I see what you're saying. I was trying to protect myself from someone placing an order then backing out once the order was placed. That happened to me recently. The bill of sale forms I've seen on MS Word templates don't have a place for a signature. I was thinking of the following: Once a buyer agrees to buy a print, send them a bill of sale with the image specs & pricing, have a place where they sign it (essentially agreeing to pay), then they would send it back to me & I'd order the piece. At least I would have written documentation that they agreed to the price, the final piece instead of just taking verbal orders.

Do you know if it is customary to ask buyers to pay in full or half, before placing an order? My pieces are expensive to produce & I don't want to be stuck with extra artwork around the house. Maybe I should always ask for 1/2 up front before they order. If I did, I would need to have some terminology on the bill of sale stating that if the order is cancelled, they would forfeit their deposit. Sometimes, their deposit would pay for the piece itself. I just wouldn't be out anything.

Any ideas/thoughts?

A few thoughts....

Be sure you get a deposit large enough to cover your costs incase you are stuck with it. (I prefer 100%)

Next, make sure if you are having them sign something, it has a copyright clause in it saying that they are buying a print and have no reproduction rights.

Just wanna say thanks to everyone in this thread, great question and responses! I've been grappling with the idea of paying a deposit up-front as well.
