need your advice - is it worth buying 1D II (~350$) for stuff like rally, drift and maybe also portraits?
have owned 1Ds II before downgraded to 5D classic, and Yes, feel the difference in AF and have less keepers (not only in sports shoots but also portrait work).

what to check before buying (week points)?

I just recently picked up a 1diin for about $350. I bought it only to use for wildlife and sports. I think its worth the money, the one I bought was in very good condition and unless you are needing super high iso this should be perfect. I have used iso 1600 and it cleaned up fairly well in post.

Congrats. There is one right now in our local CL for 400.00 you got a good deal IMO.

Thanks, very happy with it so far. I did need to buy a battery as I recharged it but it was not lasting nearly long enough. Check keh/adorama, I used keh's 10% off during black friday/cyber monday deals to get adorama to adjust their price.

Was the battery completely dead? Try the refresh cycle on the charger to kill it and then charge it.

I connected the battery and clicked that refresh button. I believe the whole process took about 9-10 hours if I remember correctly. It works but I was outside and it died after probably less that 100 shots. It is getting a little cold so I know it will not be the longest lasting due to the cold but I'm pretty sure it should last longer than that! I bought a 3rd party battery, well 2 pack. Hope that performs better. Should have it later this week or early next week.
