Would a 1D MkII used by a pro with his estimate of 150000 shots that he says is in good condition as it has been to Canon Professional Services
for a once over twice be worth buying for $400. What is the life span of a 1D MkII. If I bought it, I would just use it recreationally, probably mostly around the house as I have a T4i with a zoom that I would use as my walk around. Thanks

I had my shutter blowup at 170,000 actuations. If he had the shutter replaced, find out what the total count is on the new shutter.

Also, what kind of lenses do you plan on using? The 1d2 won't take ef-s lenses.

Rated shutter life of a 1D Mark II is 200,000 actuations. But this particular one may die at 270,000 actuations. Or at 170,000. You never can tell.

I have 85 1.8 to start with. Thinking about 135 f2 or possibly selling the 85 and buying 100 L macro thinking it would be better for available light shooting.
I haven't bought the camera yet. I have to find out what he had serviced when he sent the camera in. Also I am a bit worried that if I bought the camera I would have a hard time getting it serviced by Canon. I read on this forum they stopped repairing 1D MKII.

My very 1st attempt in panoramic photography. These were 5 shots merge into one using PS CS3 and no post processing done except of course cropping the image. I used a 1DMKII with the EF 300 F4L IS & 1.4xII handheld. This is practically an image straight out of the camera. I was at the Northside of Huntington Beach, Ca when I took these shot. What influenced me to take this horrible shot..? Well, thanks to my surfing photog brotha, Airbutchie. His panoramic shots of LA are impressive and this made me try this kind of photography. Enough with the blah blah....i'm ready for the brutal comments & criticism...click the image and will take you to my Flickr account.

I had a 1D3 with a 17-40mm. If you can deal with F/4 then it is a great lens especially at a used price.

Agreed. It's great and pretty damn wide even with the 1.3 crop.

With regards to actuations, I bought mine at 180,000 18months ago, currently on around 265,000 and going strong (touch wood). Almost bought another last week, but I really want a video body. Will likely buy another early next year (or maybe a 1D3...)

One from today, was at the Whistler Sliding Centre as they were running a charity event so I volunteered myself and my Camera. This was shot with an 85 1.8, no flashes allowed.

May I ask the 1D2N owners and experts to assist me ... although I have a couple of bodies (actually 3, also having a 50D for sale), I always have had a wish to have (and try out for an extended period) a pro Series 1 body. I think I have enough EF lenses to use on it to have a good experience, and prices for a reasonable 1D2N appear to be right for me.
I feel sufficiently capable of judging condition, etc., but the shutter failure spectre is scaring me off.
Let's assume the worst ... I buy a 1DM2N and the shutter immediately fails. What does it cost to replace and repair?
I am a Canadian CPS member ... will that affect the cost and availability of repair?
I know Canon dropped the 1D2 from it's service list. In the future when this happens to the 1D2N, could one get a shutter replaced anywhere other than at Canon themselves?

And a question for you, is your budget that low so you can get used 1D3 or even 1D4? If i will get a 1 series body if you shoot sports and action and fast moving subjects then i will ignore MarkII models and look at Mark3 and up, you can't tell when Canon will stop servicing MarkIIn model too, maybe next year, then what you can do?

The last time I sent one in for a shutter replacement, it was around $250 US. That was with a CPS gold discount. I'm sure they will eventually drop it from the service list , even after that there are several independent companies that will service them as long as parts are available.
