Hey fellow 1Dii/N owners! I'm really stoked that I was able to pick up a in good condition with less then 30k actuations on it for $500 It will definitely go well with the PJ kit I already have.
I've got a question though about changing the personal custom functions. I understand to do so, you are required to have camera window but the thing is my purchase didn't come along with a CD unfortunately. I do have another copy of EOS utility/zoom browser put this came for my 1D3. I tried installing it seeing if it worked but it said my camerawindow could not detect my camera. This was all with all the updates I could find too.
Would someone be explain from step one on how to change the personal custom functions?
hopefully the following information will help.
- Window 7 (x64) user
- Do not own any of the CD's that came with the 1DiiN
- Do not own a fire wire cable, only USB
Thank you!
As I understand it, Canon never did release drivers for the 1DIIN for any Windows OS beyond XP (no vista drivers and no win7 drivers) and never released any x64 bit drivers either. You also "MUST" use the firewire cable to make any changes to personal functions or copyright/owner info on the camera.
Now the workaround that I used for this was to load a settings file onto the camera using the load/save settings options somewhere in the settings menus. It had all the personal functions enabled from another member here on the forum. If you go way back into the original 1D Mk II and Mk IIn owners thread (round 1, ), you may be able to find it (went back and looked, looks like the user changed hosts and the file isn't up anymore but here's the link to the post: https://photography-on-the.net …+ii+settings+file&page=74 ).
If not, I still have that settings file lurking around somewhere and also have it loaded onto the camera and could recreate it. The downside to this was that the forum member had their copyright info saved into that settings file so the camera lists it's owners name as that forum member in all the exif data
(I always had to make a note to strip the info out). Also, important note: loading a settings file has been found to muck around with the shutter count readable by the user on the camera. I had gotten mine with around 112k on the shutter (or so it said) and after loading the settings file to the camera, the count read as somewhere around 30k if I remember right. Won't have any effect on the count Canon can read though so I consider it harmless.
