sorry to hear about your experience man.

I got no issues with merkle, no shipping fee, no tax, no foreign transaction fee. They called me after they got a stock after a week.

regards,
marlonie

My experience with Merkle's has been completely frustrating so far.

* No clue about inventory
* Willful misrepresentation of inventory
* Willful misrepresentation of expected ship dates and actual ship dates (they shipped the same package on 3 different days per their stories)
* Lying about problems with Canada Xpresspost as the reason to ship UPS (even when the order explicitly stated Xpresspost for USA delivery)
* Lying on 2 different occasions (AFTER shipment and AFTER bringing it to their attention that the UPS tracking says "standard" but package not yet picked up) about the UPS service being the next day service. Turned out to be a standard service. 7 calendar days to reach me after shipment
* Blatant disregard for integrity and honesty in the transaction
* Blatant disregard for good customer service
* Will not respond to emails at all. Will not return your calls at all even after they say they will.

I will never ever shop there again.

Henry's been great so far with the return and refund. They did mess up the paypal refund by initiating a separate payment transaction instead of using the "Issue Refund" link on the original transaction. This attracted additional fees from Paypal coming out of my pocket. Was a long drawn hassle with Henry's to get this corrected, but they did correct it in the end. My point of contact with Henry's had a bit of an attitude (Customer's always wrong, Henry's always right! What do I know about business and return processing and paypal refunds! etc. etc.). He seemed a bit boxed-in in his approach towards entertaining my communications around problems with the return/refund. Anyway, it went well after quite a bit of struggle and delays!

Henry's was super with the original order though. Everything was quick and easy. Shipped very quickly and via Xpresspost. It's just that their paypal based returns/refunds are a bit of a gray area where even they probably don't know what they are doing.

Has anybody purchased from Camera Canada before? Looks like they have the same deal..

Don't know if you are still looking for an answer to this, but I bought my 50D from Camera Canada a couple of years ago and they were great. I'd buy from them again...

FYI anyone put off by the 7-14 day shipping estimate from Henry's due to stock, I ordered at 5pm yesterday and just got an email that i've been charged and item has been shipped! Suddenly got very excited.

Edit, I just checked my paypal and was charged $2012 CAD, and with conversation rate it ended up charging me $2041 USD. Why the extra 3.5%? I thought people using a CC on here were getting charged a $60 fee but, mine was linked to my bank account, didn't think this would cause a charge? I mean, its still a hell of a deal, but i expected $1979 via google's exchange rate for today.

Anyways just paypals conversion rate is 1usd=.986 cad. Google says .97 usd = 1 cad.

^^ Paypals conversion rate includes their conversion and transaction fees. It is not the same as "spot" rate.

Paypals rates are still reasonable considering what some credit cards and/or banks charge.

Yeah. Most banks I've looked at are 3% so this is right around there at 3.5%. I mean it's still a hell of a deal but reading others that didn't get charged via PayPal just made me wonder that's all.

Everyone gets charged the currency conversion via paypal regardless of the source of funds.

The only exceptions are if one was holding some money as CAD in their US paypal account (Paypal allows holding money in multiple currencies) in which case it's a CAD to CAD payment and there are no fees payable by the sender.

In addition to the currency conversion fees that paypal charges the sender, the recipient also gets charged the usual paypal fees.

Yeah I know. People are trying to dump off used ones before the market value drops, even more so now that the 1Dx was announced. I just laugh. Can't call it greedy if people are willing to buy.

I ordered a 5D Mrk II from Henry's today. hopefully all goes well. I imagine that the conversion rates are only apllied once. for example. Paypal grabs from my source account in USA dollars, then charges me 3.5 percent to convert it to CAD and then pays the seller.

meaning only being charges the conversion rate once.

also I noticed on henry's camera its say - thsi item is out of stock etc.. but then under neath it says - online orders instock ships next business day.

the question is - which one is it?

did anyone else have this experience or notice that?

Yes I noticed that too but it said online in stock so I put down my order anyway. Guess we'll find out.

I asked about this. They said they have multiple stores so its not available in the stores, but if they have stock in their warehouse it'll be available online. It looks like they got another shipment in as when i ordered two days ago it said 7-14 days but shipped the next day so i must have gotten my order in right when the new shipment came in. Looks like its updated and they have stock again now. ORDER UP!
