Just bought a new EF 50 f1.4.

At f1.4 everything is focusing properly but then for subjects 10 feet away or more, I get front focusing.

I recently returned a 24-105L because of the same problem.

Does it sound like my 7D is at fault?

But then I also have a 50 f1.8 (nifty fifty) which focuses properly....

Please help.....

+10 seems to have solved the problem.

What I don't understand is, with +10 MFA, a distance of ten ft. (or more) subjects will get properly focused, and when I come close like 3ft. away from subject, lens still focuses properly. When I readjust to "0" MFA, the 3ft. subject is still focused properly, but then when I move back to 10 ft. again, I get front focusing. I really find this weird.

Is this lens faulty or is it my camera?

Just to update the thread, I've sent the camera to Canon for investigation.

They say most focus issues with the 7D are user error, so it'l be interesting to see what Canon say.
Did you consult your user manual, as the auto AF modes often focus on things closest to the camera, you should probably try using manually selected focus points.

Do you have any examples to post?

Sounds like your camera is slightly nearsighted. :D

Just to clarify, I only use single manually selected focus point, center one for my tests to be specific.
My camera is now back from CPS anf it's now spot on. They have calibrated, cleaned the sensor and remapped the sensor as it had a few persistent stuck pixels which dont go even after the manual sensor clean trick.

I had a hunch that Canon would resolve the problem for you, especially since the problem occurred with more than one lens. I'm glad to hear that things are working better for you now.

Ya but I can not tell a difference between all the images. It like a hit and miss I guess.
