Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens

The updated 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro lens now features Sigma’s own proprietary Optical Stabilizer (OS) technology. Sigma’s Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) feature ensures quiet and high-speed autofocus as well as full-time manual focus capability. This lens also has a rounded nine-blade diaphragm that creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

Why is this lens not so popular?

here are some shots....I have much to learn in macro so don't judge the lens by these shots, but I felt they were decent enough to share haha.

I am thinking of picking one up. The price is enticing with the $200 rebate.


Update: Ordered one today. Should be here in a week or so.

I’ve only had it for just over a day now, but so far, it’s been a winner for me..! The 1:1 true macro is amazing, and the AF mechanism is near silent. The colors, contrast, and the sharpness - very, very happy with ‘em all.

And the $200 current rebate isn’t bad, either. The focus ring isn’t nearly as smooth as the one on Zeiss 100 that it replaced, but it’s not bad.

All in all, very happy with the choice.

The only knock that I can think of is its regular price. When it almost costs as much as its major brand competitor, i.e., Canon 100L, it is not going to win that market segment, let’s face it.

At its current promotional price, around $770, it is an attractive option, however.
