Hi all, I have been having some delay issues with my shutter button on my 40D. There are times when I have to hold the button down and wait for it to fire. This issue isn't present with the button on my battery grip. Has anyone else had this issue? If not, I will be taking it in after wedding season. Thanks.

Chris

Assuming you've checked things like self timer, mirror lockup. It's just a sticky shutter button you can either send it in, or try and fix it yourself by pouring a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the battery compartment and letting it trickle into the shutter button. I did it to my 30D with no ill effects. Search the forum for specifics. There's also some YouTube videos available.

It may be dirty contacts or the shutter button leafs a bit "soft".
I replaced my 20d's shutter button with the leafs from a ruined BG and now it is working properly again. It's clicking good and doesn't need to be pressed more thatn oncec to fire.

A quick test would be to put the lens on MF and the camera in M, and set the shutter speed to a reasonably fast speed. Put the camera into, well, whatever shooting mode you feel like -- the AF won't hunt for and try to lock on a subject and the exposure "won't care" about low light. And, unless you have the mirror lockup on or the self-timer on, you should get a quick shot. Otherwise, well, you can try the alcohol routine but you'll want to take out the date/time battery first...

Or, of course, if you have a camera shop nearby with a repair shop...
