I have not and will not shoot test charts or batteries or books for my own mental health, but from shooting some normal things, the focus seems ok.
It is quiet but can sometimes feel a bit slow. Will have to look into that.

Cheers!

I have the same combo. It is not the fastest focusing lens but it does just ok. was shooting in really low light and the focus was hunting quite a lot, but I might have been using outer focusing points which is not the brightest idea with 5D.

I have done very scientific test shooting a ruler from weird angle and it showed me a tiny bit of front focusing, but the real life experience shows that the focus is spot on!

So, here are two of the first shots I did.
Just random shots at home at diner time.
Today is raining like hell here... Hope it clears so I can do some outdoor shooting during the weekend.

No PP what so ever... Just jpg out of the camera and resized.

Thought I would update this. So today I called the store to see if my lens is back yet (it has been at Sigma for 10 weeks now). They informed me that it just showed up and I went to pick it up. Looks like there was issues found with it at Gentec (Canadian Sigma distributor) and the lens was fixed/caliberated. The work order had this on it (keep in mind this is a brand new, straight out the box lens):

"Replaced MPCD, ROTOR-HSM4, STATOR-HSM4, Caliberated."

Now I get home and put it on my 5d2 and guess what? AF doesn't work at all. No hunting/motor noise. Just nothing. I tried using manual focus and the lens is waaaaay soft (much worse then before I sent it in).

Take it back to the store - they test it on a couple bodies and sure enough - no AF. They tell they have to send it back again. At this time I demand a refund. They say it's going to be at manager's discresion and they will call me tomorrow to let me know if they will do the refund. So yeah - not very happy.

At least I bought it on my Visa so if they refuse to refund it I will try to do a chargeback due to defective product. Lame ass lens.

In the uk (and I would think Canada would be similar) a refund would go without saying, and is guaranteed under you legal rights. It might be worth checking what your rights are in this matter...

Could be wrong ofcourse :)
