I tried this out last Sunday and it was simply smooth.
As soon as the B&G sit down to eat, I connected my main body with the iPad then selected to import a quick 30 shots from B&G getting ready and the ceremony. It took about 10 minutes.
Once the B&G were done with their dinner, they walked around all the table to chat with their Families and Friends and came back to their table with a surprise of images ready to view right on their table. They almost drop on the floor.

Was the iPad included in the package? :)
Did you JPEG (or RAW + JPEG) to make this work?

Funny that you asked Nick. The first thing the Bride told me with a big smile was "I thought it was a gift from somebody"

I shot all RAW and just imported them. Apple did the rest. "That was easy".

Interesting idea, and a quick way to show photos from the day. I like the idea, but am worried my ipad would walk away.

Good point Bryan but I felt extremely safe with this group as they were my best B&G, Bridal party, Families and Guests (so far). Beside the set up of the B&G table was a dance floor away from everyone else so it was kind of isolated. Great turn out was everyone who came up to chat with B&G and see the photos walked away with one of my card in their hand.

Fyi, the iPad was protected with the Switcheasy (external link)(no I don't work for them) so even if it get drop, it should be fine (unless it lands screen first).

I process about 100-150 photos from the day during the supper and throw my laptop in a corner showing a slideshow, so people can view photos taken from morning till reception. People go nuts over it. You don't need an ipad, just use a laptop. Besides, a laptop can sit on it's own a lot easier than an iPad and everyone already has a download/cull/process workflow for their computers, so no need to learn new apps and create a new workflow.

Showing photos is great marketing and it gets people excited about your work. I book a lot of weddings because of people watching the slideshow.

Yes, I do that as well with my computer and now iPad. It's easy to do. I don't do it to advertize, just to pass the time. It's just a plus. The family loves it.

Yeah, we do it like Lloyd does, except we display it on a 22" flat screen. That way the laptop is under the table where the sticky little fingers can't get to it. The staff at the reception hall are always surprised when we ask for a table, or a spot left for ours. We always try to decorate it similarly to the other tables so it blends in, and it gives you a good spot to leave your gear, swap out cards, lenses, & batteries.

After dinner and the events have ended, we almost always have a crowd watching the slideshow, and we always ask the couple for some personal pics from their youth or courtship to include. By the time the night is over, we normally have around 60-75 pictures running.

Now that we've been shooting in the same area for 3 or 4 years, we are starting to see a lot of the same people at the weddings we are covering. Even if they don't come right out and say it's a referral before hand, we know it is by the end of the night.

If you are showing your best photos then wouldn't the surprise be gone when they see the whole set in few weeks time?

Just asking.

Let's say the wedding cost about 25K$ and last 8 hours. That's 3.125K$ an hour, So for the 15 minutes it took them to look at the photos they paid about 800$. I say B&G's time during the wedding should be left to socializing with family and friends - pictures can wait till next day.

That's awesome but I don't know how you find the time to PP over 100 images in such a short amount of time. I definitely use that time to eat and rest. I'm going to think about trying to do it though (but I'm thinking of shooting for 25 or so images).

I'd also worry about showing images to everyone basically before my clients even see them. The bride getting ready is such an intimate thing, and the portraits of her in her gown as well. I'd feel weird about showing those images to all of her co-workers and cousins etc while she's still reeling from the ceremony. Any thoughts on this Lloyd? Thanks,
