Pocket wizard TT1 and TT5 is the way to go! It supports full ETTL off camera flash triggering. It enables wireless high speed sync as well, so you can shoot above your normal camera flash sync speed! You can shoot wide open to get that thin depth of field and using higher shutter speed to control your exposure and control the ambient light! Price maybe more expensive than eBay Chinese trigger and other infrared red triggers but they are worth every penny IMO

Do you want ETTL or would you be comfortable with manual flash? There are cheap devices like the YN 603's that support manual. If you require ETTL it gets more expensive. You could use a 500ex series (550, 580,580II) flash as a master, or a canon ST-E2 for the canon optical wireless system. Radio options are also relaively pricey, see the Pocket Wizard ControlTL system or the Pixel Knight or photix odin systems. Skip the cowboy triggers.

Pocket wizard is the manufacture, just google search it! It has tons of educational videos on there as well! TT1 and TT5 will be the model that I am talking about!

You need one to act as a transmitter and one a receiver.

You need a TT1 or TT5 on your camera, then a TT5 on your flash unit!

There arent really any cheap ETTL options. Honestly manual OCF is so easy you dont need ETTL.

One may not need TTL but able to shoot off camera hyper sync is a must to me, especially on location! With 1/200, 1/250 flash sync, you need to stop the aperture down to get proper exposure. I like to shoot larger aperture/wide open to get thinner DOF, high speed sync is the only way to shoot beyond the flash sync shutter! Just my 2 cents!

You can use an ND filter to use wider apertures and stay within sync speeds. That will allow you to use your flash at full power instead of the loss you get with HSS.

Whats the flash sync shutter limit?
