Find something else to surprise her with imo, surprises are overrated anyway as they don't work if the person doesn't actually like the gift, choosing camera gear shouldn't be done without very careful consideration, and that consideration needs to be from the person who's going to use it imo...
Having said that, can't go far wrong with a 5Dc, but I just hope that if she doesn't like it, she has the heart to tell you, rather than just keeps using it gradually less and less because she's scared to hurt your feelings.

Choosing camera gear for someone, is like deciding which paintbrushes an artist should use.

Actually I won't mind at all if my spouse gave me Nikon D3s or the 200mm f2 and I shoot canon.
