Here's my take on this weekends rallycross from Croft Circuit. Apart from a very strong, gusty wind and some heavy showers, the day provided some excellent racing.
#1 Local man David Bellerby has struggled with his new rear wheel drive, turbocharged Peugeot this year. However, things came good for him at his local circuit and he took victory in the Supermodified A final and was also the highest place Supermodified Car in the Superfinal.

I used the outermost focus point for this shot, and was pleasantly surprised at how accurate it was even in the relatively poor afternoon light.
#2 The junior minicross was entertaining. Andrew Jordan was the class of the field, winning pretty much every race he started.

Momentum is everything with these 1000cc minis, and some of the guys were doing their best to get airborne over some the bumps in the circuit.

#4 The real excitement of the day, was between Pat Doran, Dermot Carnegie and John McCluskey in a three way championship showdown. If Doran, made it to the Superfinal, all he had to do was finish no lower than fifth. Carnegie and McCluskey on the other hand had to go for victory. First to fall was John McCluskey in his Citroen Xsara WRC, proving that races are more often lost than won at the first corner when he had a coming together in the Supercar A final with Doran and Carnegie that put him out. This despite having afterburners fitted to the car!

#5 Dermot Carnegie had the measure of McCluskey in the heats,

but suffered some suspension damage in the Supercar A final that saw him struggle to make it to the Superfinal.
#6 Pat Doran sustained a puncture in the in the coming together with McCluskey and Carnegie, and really struggled to get to the end of the Supercar A final. The flailing rubber from his disintegrating tyre damaging the bodywork of his car.

Despite spinning as he took the chequered flag, he scraped onto the very back of the Superfinal grid.
#7 And so onto the Superfinal. A really fired up Pat Doran was determined to clinch the championship. Starting dead last, he made a perfect get away and had passed all of the other finalists by the time he exited the first corner.

#8 From then on, he controlled the race superbly, and went on to win comfortably. To say he was pleased with himself and his days work, is probably an understatement!

Hopefully, this will be a good warm up for him for this coming weekends Rallycross Superprix also being held at Croft. The best drivers from Europe will be competing, so our new British Champion will really have to be on his game.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and words that went with them, and at least some of you are still awake
. Any comments or feedback greatly appreciated.Cheers,
Simon.

Word is that he is not making an appearance next weekend
