Enjoyed these Simon, your commentry and photo jounrnalism is superb. Gave me a feel for an event which was held on the other side of the world with vehicles rarely seen on Australian roads and drivers I'd never heard of. Well done:cool:

Thanks Bruce and Jake. Your comments are appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon.

hi there,

just curious, what lens are you using , i suspect a 400 f2.8 ? i am just getting into msport photography here in australia. is a 400 2.8 essential or, can do with out ?

I wish;) - all of the shots were taken with a 300mm f4 L with a 1.4TC on a 20D.

The 400 f2.8 is a nice lens, but I personally would go with the 300 f2.8, a couple of TC's and save a substantial amount of money instead of buying the 400 f2.8. I think that that setup would be more versatile, and the 300 f2.8 takes TC's extremely well. Have a look at the shots taken by KennyG and IanH for examples. Just my opinion though - you may need a longer reach in Australia.

Cheers,

Simon.

Will be a huge shame if he doesn't drive this coming Sunday. What reasons are being given for the possible no show?

According to his website

The only remaining race this season is the Rallycross Superprix on 6th November again at Croft. Unfortunately with so little time to repair the Hydrex Ford Fiesta RS, Pat will not be competing.

Cheers

Let's hope that they manage to work some magic to get the car repaired. Be a shame if the new British champion can't make an appearence.

Simon.

Thanks AzzA. No, won't be down for the Tempest. Instead I'm back at Croft for more rallycross - this time the Superprix.

Simon.

Simon, those are excellent shots. I especially like the final image and expression with it. The light is great coming through the window on him as well. Great shot.

Thanks - I very much appreciate your comments.

The final shot I think really sums up the emotion and relief felt by Pat Doran as he became British Rallycross Champion for the first time at the end of a day of real highs and lows. His car was badly damaged in the heats and he only just scraped onto the back row of the final after another competitor withdrew from the Superfinal, yet he came through to win. Was fourtunate that the sun made a rare appearence just as he came past the point that I was shooting at.

Thanks again.

Simon.

Sometimes as good to be lucky as good. Of course you still have to be good enough to take advantage when that luck appears, you obviously captured it here. Again, very nicely done.
