I had a quick trip to the Merritt Island NWR (adjacent to Cape Canaveral) this week and got a few decent shots. A fair amount of birds coming in but some of the roads were blocked for upgrade it appeared.

Very nice shots. I went to the Merritt Island NWR on Sunday, and birds were scarce. Where did you get these shots, especially the roseate spoonbills? One of the walking trails?

thanks so much to everyone for the kind comments. I really do appreciate them.

Shinksma, I have a basic plan when I go to Merritt Island NWR.
I come in from Titusville and turn right on E. Gator Creek Road, I take all the
eastward turns (Towards the NASA Assembly Building) until I end up back on 402.
I turn left and go back to the entrance of the Black Pointe Wildlife Drive. Follow
it to the end and that will get you to Rt. 3.
Turn left on Rt. 3, go over the bridge and after the big radar dome look for turnoffs
to your left. This will get you to Shiloh Marsh Road. On Shiloh Marsh road was
where I saw the biggest concentration of Spoonbills, though I did see two or three
on Gator Creek Road.

Good luck, it is an amazing place.

Garry, thanks for the tips. Black Pointe Wildlife Drive was closed when I got there Sunday, for some reason, until the 30th. Very annoying.

Might have to head there this weekend, or perhaps just wander the Orlando (Iron Bridge) Wetlands again.
