Just curious to bsee if anyone has changed out their focusing screens. On my 5d mkii I switched it out with the manual focusing screen, but haven't really seen anyone doing this with the 1 series.

I've tried the microprism, quad split prism and dual split prism. I find the last suited me best.
Sorry - I can't remember the individual designations and the Canon site is singularly unhelpful. iirc, they are Ec-B, Ec-L and Ec-A.... but that's dredging the depths.

I've also tried a couple on the 5D2.... in spite of trying a britescreen, the superfine Canon one worked for me.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Yeah, that is why I was asking, the site wasn't very helpful and there are a lot of choice. Do you still use it or did you go back to the original? What was better with the last one?

I've used the super precision -s screen to help with seeing achieved focus with my MF lenses.

Only an untrained eye can appreciate the sharpness of a lens...

I still use the split screen. I have several mf lenses and this gives me a quick and reasonably accurate gauge if live view is inconvenient. It's also useful for checking focus when using AF lenses. You must have the diopter correction dialed in accurately for this to work.

I tend to use my camera on manual exposure and bracket to ettr, so I can't comment usefully on the effect the screens have on exposure accuracy... although I have noted a bit (even with the correct screen selected in the firmware.)
