It's been a long time since I posted any flying pics. I took a break from carrying my camera around the airport. Well, I'm back in action again. Carried my 20D up and down the east coast 10 times last week.

This pic was taken early in the morning above Chesapeake Bay. When the sun is low, a beam of sunlight follows the eye across the water. I waited till the beam intersected with this ship. -1 and 1/2 exposure with Canon 17-40 L lens

Here's New York City looking down the East River. I know the horizon is running down the middle of the photo, but it's the best compo I could muster considering the situation.

Let me know what you think.

Great shot of NYC. I'm from around there (a while ago) and if I remember it isn't always that clear. Kind of looks like you can reach in there or out the plane window.

I like them both! Are these taken out the window of a commercial plane? Mine always come out distorted when I try to take them out the window (or I get a hunk of the wing in the shot!)

Good shots, Dave. No problem with the NYC composition. I agree it was a rare day there without haze.

It helps to be sitting in the cockpit. The windows are cleaner and the wing doesn't get in the way. :D

I heavily post process all my aerial photos. It takes a lot of extra contrast and sharpning to make them look OK. Of course, then they look over sharpened, but so far that is the best compromise I can come up with.

Thanks. This is the best time of year for aerial photography. The big canadian high pressure systems make for clear sky, even in NYC.
