A professional photographer friend and myself are setting up a studio in my Shop. I have a 26x46 shop that I do not really use for anything. Anyway we are also starting a local photography club to help inspire more people and teach some work shops etc... So far here is what we have setup.

4 backdrops different colors all on cable systems.
Paper roll back drop as well (Sky Blue)
2 White Lightning 10,000 Flash strobes with Modeling lights.
1 White Lightning 5,000 flash Strobe with modeling lights
2 Photogenic 600 strobe/modeling lights
8 Manfrotto stands various sizes
2 Salon stands with Bogen Ball heads
52" Gold/White Lite disc
3 shoot through umbrellas
1 silver umbrella
Various stools

Also we have 2 computers to control our cameras remotely with a mounted projector to project the images as they are taken etc.. Don't see us using this much.
Have a light box for small projects too.

The list of wishes is long still but this should be a fun project and hope to learn lots through this. Also get some more like minded people interested in photography.

Here is a pic or 2 of the setup so far.

Anyhow just thought I would post up for the heck of it. Pretty excited about the new venture.

Yes a boom is on the wishlist. But we have to start somewhere and build on it. I have some ideas for soft boxes mounted on swingable arms from the ceiling etc... sorta do the same thing as a boom. It will come eventually.

Boom is great, but until you can get one, you can actually set up a C-stand and throw a light on the end of that and put it up over the backdrop if you need a direct back-lit or hair light. I find that you can never have too many C-stands! See how David Mecey sets up his shoots, but even Hanson Fong finds a way for that air light. Pre-C-stand in our studio when he taught here we just lowered the backdrop a bit and got our regular stand at max height and did a tighter shot on a head shot. You can learn more tips and tricks from these guys at our CaliforniaPhotoFestival.com in October! Samys camera Santa Barbara is giving discounts on ll of the gear there during the week as well.

The money for two Salon stands at $1000.00 - $2000.00 apiece could have gone a long way for other equipment. I'm assuming they are something that your partner already had.

All the equipment except the 3 White lightnings are stuff which was already had by both of us. The Solon stands are fabricated copies. Handy when you have friends as fabricators :) 1000.00`s were not spent LOL!!!

First Photo shoot went well. Had a volunteer model who was really great to work with. She was very patient. Anyway here is a couple pics from the session. Not to happy with the sharpness need to work on it a bit more.

Used a Bamboo curtain as a backdrop which I kinda liked as a backdrop.

Not sure actually? Was trying to get nice sharp images. I have lots to learn yet :o I have other images which did not seem to turn out very well with a wider open apature. DOF was nice but just didn't seem to work well. Lots to figure out with all the studio lighting still.

What are you thinking?
