Two simple questions about the 22 inch Kacey Beauty dish. Before I hit the purchase button:

1) Does it come with a diffusion sock or do I need to buy one separately?

2) I have Einstein Lights from Paul C Buff. Will the 250 modeling light being turned on for prolonged time frames hurt the beauty dish in any way?

Thank you.

Please proceed, Governor.

Make sure you tell Jerry that BD is to be used with strobes not hot shoe flashes so proper deflector is installed.

I keep reading in photo forums that this dish is not to be used for long periods of time in the studio with the 250 watt modeling light on. If not for the confusion on that issue I would buy this dish.

Can someone clear this up?

Tom, Jerry Kacey himself clarified this.

Martin (FJ LOVE) linked to it above: https://photography-on-the.net …p?p=13156573&postcount=13

I've used the Kacey dish with a 250W modelling light without problems. The advantage is that it doesn't heat up as much as metal dishes and reflectors do. ;)

Thank you Dennis. I did read FL Love's info....but....then read info from other forums that said modeling lights were a problem.

I will take your word for it considering you use it.

Plastic deflector with mirror (needed for use with speedlites) is the problem if you use the grid with modelling lights. The metal deflector (which you need for use with strobes) doesn't have that issue. So that is why you have to let Jerry know when ordering which deflector you need or get both if using with speedlites as well as strobes.

Jerry mentions this in the link posted (twice)... All dishes come with the metal deflector now:

Only issue was with the acrylic center deflector we first used years ago. All dishes now come with a metal deflector. There is a interior heat sheild that surrounds the back of the dish. Works great with up to a 250 watt modeling light. Not advised to use with high powered hot lights.
