Something has been puzzling me for years now.
Why is that camera manufacturers haven't yet added a shutter count feature to DSLR's?

The camera is keeping track and we need the figures every now and again. It would be very simple to ad a feature to the menu, that allows you to see the shutter count.

Any ideas as to why no one has done this yet?

Probably to keep from being deluged with warranty claims whenever someone's shutter died prior to it's rated life.

Its actually the other way around. It used to be there and they took it out.

The shutter count was a function call in the Canon SDK (Software Development Kit) up until 5 or 6 versions ago - at least I think thats when it was. Every SDK release since then has NOT contained that function.

So I can use the older SDK and write an app to get the shutter count but it only works on models supported at the time that SDK was released.

Thats why software packages like astrojargon cannot work on newer cameras.
