Ah, Jay, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, I found that approach didn't "share" the flagging!

What did share the flagging was to Flag in the folder first, then add that image/images to the collection, and that, at least for me, had the flag showing up in both the folder and the collection...see the difference? Try it and let us know if it works that way for you!

I know that it does not. Here's the issue I ran into...

When sorting my shots from Oshkosh, I went through just about all 12K frames and made collections by either aircraft type or airshow performer. Then, in each collection, I went through and flagged the "picks." Now, when I go back to the folder for each day and try to apply the "Pick" attribute as my choice for display, no flagged images show up. Flagged in a collection =/= flagged in the folder.

Oh, and Jay, I'm interested to know if you ever resolved your problem with getting an Alt-PrtScrn to copy into an image from the clipboard in Photoshop!

Yeah. I was not aware of the "Snip Tool" in Win 7 but I am now. Works like a champ! :D

OK, so do you get what I'm saying, that for better or for worse Flagging "sticks" if you go to collections?

I guess the "philosophy" is that flagging stays "local", although if you flag an image in a folder you can move the image to a collection and it remains flagged, but the reverse doesn't hold true. Not so convenient for those of us who use flagging as a "primary" tool. But, using the Ribbons and Stars and such seem to be more "mobile", oh well...

I guess the way LR is designed, Adobe expects you to pick before you collect but sometimes, I prefer to break shots down by quasi keywords in that all the shots that I want to bring together share a common trait (all P-51s, all Cessna, all Matt Younkin, etc...) but they appear multiple times over multiple days and I want to be able to call out the best of each whether I'm in a collection or not.

It shouldn't be so hard but for the fact that folders and collections don't "talk" to each other... :(

René, weren't you doing exactly what I said, that is, flagging photos, and then adding them to collections? Your video was fast-moving, but it looked like that was what you were doing:)!

I was flagging in a folder, then moving to a collection. Flags are gone in the collection.

Not sure that Jay sees the same as I do?

I'm curious to know whether this is a Windows vs OSX issue or something else…
I'll update LR to 3.5 and give it another try.

Other experiences? What version LR and what OS?

OK, so do this: open a folder in the Library module. Pick a file and Flag it, Then put the file into a collection (not previously in a collection) -- does it show?

This is such an annoying LR "feature", flagging is not global. I switched to using color labels and stars.

Not an issue for me: I use flags only for a first culling. I think that's what it was intended for.
