Hi,
I tried a 35L and use it on a 5D2 for the first time.

Setting i normally used and prefer,
Av mode, auto ISO.

I tend to get shutter speed range between 1/30-1/40. Is there a way to increase this range of shutter speed?

i know that in Av mode, fixing ISO to say 1600 can bump up the shutter speed. but i like to vary my ISO.

Hence, is there a way to increase this range of shutter speed?

cheers,
Scott

What aperture are you shooting at?

Lower the aperture number. Get more light on your subject. Raise your iso. Auto iso range on the 5dii is not wide.

not with AUTO ISO.

i still wish Canon would let users set a range for auto ISO (like if i want ISO 400 to ISO 800 ONLY)
that will ensure i have a minimum shutter speed but still with the flexibility of auto ISO

cedew: i shoot aperature range 1.4-2.8

mike cabilangan: yes, i agreed with you. too bad, i love to use auto ISO. works well with 70-200 but not with this prime lens. Indoor, i have to set ISO to 1600 to upp my shutter speed. annoying as Av cannot be used indoor. i always have motion blur due to 1/30-1/40.

cheers.

If you're wide open at 1/30-1/40 and ISO1600, but don't want to go higher than 1600 or use faster shutter speeds, there is no more pixie dust left. :)

Well i just never trust auto ISO, I don't think it's accurate either.

Also what auto iso does is to make sure the shot is of right exposure, but sometimes that might not be what you want.

I can understand why people use AV and TV, and auto iso is fine if you are a beginner with a rebel or something. But on a pro body? i just wouldn't recommend, it hurts me a little bit inside...

In theory, it's an excellent feature for n00bs and pros alike, provided you trust the meter and the feature works like it should.

Hi Scott, can I just ask when you use auto iso, what was the aperture and iso value? Was the result correctly exposed?

If the shutter was 1/30, then you must be in a pretty dark room.

Only if you mount a longer FL lens.

With auto ISO on AV, the camera will pick the lowest shutter speed based on your mounted lens and selected aperture. So, if you've got a 100mm mounted it will choose around 1/100 of a second, the aperture you selected and the appropriate ISO to balance the exposure. (There are other factors, but you get the idea)

Personally, 1/30 on a 35L is plenty fast to stop camera shake with proper technique. But obviously not appropriate for fast moving subjects. Then you must manually select the ISO.

In Av mode, when i used auto ISO, the exposure are mostly correct. In indoor, i just shot a wedding in a hall, shutter is around 1/30-1/40, aperture is about 1.4-2.8, Auto ISO, i can see that the ISO tend to fluctuate between 100-800 max (maybe 1600). I am not sure why the ISO does not go up to 3200. It does go up to 3200 when I used my 70-200II.

Exposure is always correct.
