5D Classic Question

I have been kicking around the idea of a new camera for a while now and have a 2 part question. I have about $400-$500 saved for new gear and would sell my 10-22 for additional cash if I get a FF camera as I feel my 24-70 will now be better suited on the wide side.

1. Is adding a 5D classic to my setup worth my while? I currently shoot a 40D and have absolutely no qualms about the body. I need a 2nd body for the work I do.

2. If not a 5Dc, then what other options(FF) do I have?

I would say go for the 5D ... I've heard it's pretty amazing! Otherwise, just the 5D Mark II, or the ID series, which is likely out of your price range.

If you can't wait until the big EOS announcement then get the 5D. Rumors going around that there will be an entry level FF camera.

I was not aware of an entry level FF.

The only thing clogging forums these days are if the new 5D3 comes wings, rotors or both!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm probably 2-3 weeks away from making a decision.

The 5d is an outstanding camera.. It didn't stop taking high quality images when the new models came out.

For that matter, the 1ds also takes outstanding images and has 45 point focusing and 21 zone metering.. ;)

.... Got some cameras; got some glass ..... I just need one more of each.....

I think that it would be worthwhile to add a 5dc. All the lenses you have right now will shine on full frame. You will also fall in love with the 85mm 1.8

I did the same and very rarely use my 40D except when I want the frame rate, the lenses you have will be stellar on a 5D.The only downside and its only a small one is the rear screen but if you only use it for composition and the histogram its fine.

Rumors are like opinions... ;)

Plus an "entry level FF" body will still be around the $1600-1800 price range, so if you are on a budget that is lower than this, the 5Dc is the only FF option to consider. Otherwise, you would go to an APS-H body like the 1DIIn or a newer crop body. The 7D is a big step up from the 40d, for example, and for a lesser step up (AF-wise), the 60D is a good option.

I don't have a 5D II, but from what I've heard if you shoot a lot of low light stuff then the 5D II may be a better choice .. just cause of the technological whizbang. Technique, glass, a tripod, and a flash or two can minimize this gap between the two bodies easily though. Unless you're gonna be making billboards, the 5D would be my choice.

I started photog with a 60D, then got a 7D, then got the 5D ... I regressed technologically, but gained in awesomeness :)

Since it makes her look good, my wife is more accepting of the time I spend with my 5D than with my previous hobby, which was stereo audio :) AFAIC, my 5D will be the last thing I sell before I move on to a less expensive, less time consuming, less all consuming new hobby. The 5Dc is like Bailey's .. smooth and uncomplicated.

P.S. As someone said in a post a few days ago, when the 5D III comes out, all 5Dc and 5D II bodies will explode .. so be careful everyone :)

Rumors... Gotta love them.

What I potentially see happening is the 5D mk III moving into the $3500 price point and replacing the 1DS mk 4... Very robust build, yada yada yada...

Then a $2000 6D (or something) moves in to fill the gap. I see it as a basic FF cam, probably much like the 5D classic mixed with the 60D...

Again, rumors are in no way concrete and are mostly speculation.

A good used 5D... Like the one I have for sale  is a great cam that matches the best of the best for IQ without breaking the bank.

I went from a 40D to 5D and have NEVER looked back.
