I just read the sticky on filters and looked at the archives. Today I received my first L lens the 70-200 F4 IS. I have small children and dogs, I would like to protect the front element from damage. So what clear glass filter is the best ? and who is a good vendor to buy it from ? Thank you for your time and assistance.

I like maxsaver.net, and I do like my Hoya Pro1...though I'm actually starting to like not using filters. My 24-70 got a nice and very small bump in sharpness when I took it off...

My advice is - read this thread. And then buy / use a lens hood.

Cheers

What sort of damage do you expect that a filter might "protect" your lens from?

USE the lens hood that was supplied each and every time the lens is out of the camera case.
