I am very excited about this purchase. I needed something for basketball and indoor soccer and now hopefully can take some decent pics there.
I had some "bonus gift cards" (aka secret stash) to Sears burning a hole in my pocket and I wanted that lens bad. Luckily Sears had them available through TriState Camera in NYC. I guess Sears is trying the Amazon/Ebay thing.
I ordered it yesterday and the expected delivery date was between October 4th and 7th. I was shocked when the UPS guy just walked in to my office and handed me the package.
All I got was the purchase confirmation and the thing was delivered within 24 hours. :D

I know I am talking nonsense now but it is a very exciting day for me.

I don't use mine nowhere near enough!!! Nothing wrong with it, I just prefer 50mm.

Maybe I should use JUST the 85 for a week...?!? :)

Congrats, have fun :)

The 85 and my 50 1.4 are on my camera 90 percent of the time.

Enjoy-

Take your first photos for the purpose of finding the right exposure combo - then just trust the lens... click away!! The AF is so fast, sometimes I just turn to where the ball has gone & click - I may miss the composition, but the focus is right-on.

Tv, 1/800, ISO 400-1600 depending on the lighting; you'll stick it.

The 50 1.8 is an excellent lens! I started out with the 50 1.8 MK2 prior to my 1.4 and had no complaints.

You can find the MK2's on here all the time for around a hundred bucks.

Thanks gator, that will be a great starting point. indoor soccer starts soon. :)

I need to learn to steady my hands now. I notice that with this lens more and more. to the point I thought it was missing focus but I did the "test" and I think lens is OK.
Here are the results:

and then I did one with OCF and discovered what the CA concerns were all about :)
