Viewfinder user!

Been watching a video on youtube on some sort of camera review, and noticed the person who was taking the shots was using only the small viewfinder and rarely the LCD.

I have read somewhere that using the viewfinder is faster for focusing,battery friendly,can use it under the sun without problems etc etc etc.

But on the other hand, you got to be used to distances and focus since you don't see what you normally see on the LCD, so wich way do you prefer and under what situations?

I'm starting to like to use the viewfinder, and it looks proffessional too

I only use the liveview when shooting static object with the exception of the moon . This way I shoot MF and use the magnify +/- button to finetune focusing.

I don't have a body with live view, but if I did, the only time I'd see myself using it would be for macro work. I hate cameras without viewfinders. They get washed out in bright sun, and I just find the whole holding the camera at arms length thing unwieldy. Plus, using the viewfinder brings the camera closer to your body and makes for a more stable shooting platform.

I do too use the +/- button for manual focusing, I tought I was the only one

Same, I'm only using Live view for manual focusing ( astrophoto, macro, long exposures ). Even my poor 95% field viewfinder on the 50D is better than live view for composition and shooting

Yep... I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people here are primarily viewfinder users... Liveview has it's specific uses, but is definitely not how the camera was meant to be used in most normal situations.

Anyone who thinks using the viewfinder is abnormal, obviously doesn't have any lenses that have significant weight to them...
I can't imagine trying to hold a gripped body w/24-70/2.8 out in front of me to shoot...

I heard it's done to attract the P&S owners to migrate to the DSLR

How many of you are four eyes and bought the eye correction diopter?

Viewfinder 100% of the time. I don't own a camera with any sort of "Live View" function.

OK, seriously, why the LCD sceen then since you can do without it?

I only use the viewfinder for video, and that's it. Granted, i haven't really tried macro yet, but I can definitely see using it for that.

To display the histogram/picture once you've taken the shot, liveview has only been around in DSLRs for about 3-4 years.

I hope I'm understand this right: you mean why is there an LCD screen if you don't need to use it as a viewfinder?

Display settings, histogram, review images, etc.

Yeah, I did. Whoops...LCD Viewfinder. Hah!

But, irregardless, that's it's only use to me.
