I know that everyone was saying that my file sizes were too big on my site as I loaded full size images for the full screen display, I have made some adjustments and I'm resizing the images to about 150-250k depending on the photo. I am saving for web in CS5 and at 60% of the original. now my question is it ok to lack the IQ on the site to gain the download speed?

By "full screen" display do you mean your website hijacks a browser making it go full screen? If so you should reconsider because I, like many others, get seriously offended what a website hijacks my browser. I will immediately leave a website that hijacks my computer. I browse with a vertical letter sized window even though I have a 24" widescreen LCD.

I was thinking about the same trade-off when I was building my website. I liked the look of everything, but in order to make the site load in a decent amount of time, the pictures were looking like crap. I had them sized to 1600px, and to get the file sizes to a reasonable size, they looked like absolute crap... I ended up shrinking the image size to around 680px on the long side. Then, I could crank up the quality a bit, and still maintain a decent sized file... while full screen shots are nice, I wasn't willing to sacrifice loading time or image quality.

This is the reason I stayed away from full screen themes. These sort of themes are meant for the smaller sized portfolios since they will require a good deal of filesize to keep the quality on the up. Depending on what your theme is, you could make it only show a single image on the main page and only have a multiple image slideshow on the respective portfolio categories.

You've got the Core theme right? (I really didn't like that one) Invictus was nice. I just wrote an article about some of my fav Themeforest fullscreen themes. All well built. 15 Fullscreen Themes for Photogs (external link)
